Constructing shelters since 2006, Steel Strong Shelters provide services for Alabama and surrounding states. Available in standard and custom sizes, all of our units have a lifetime warranty against defects.
Our shelters are built beyond standard specifications, containing quality and value-added components that are not typically found in our competitor's shelters.
These units feature galvanized no-rust, heavy-duty door handles with an 800 lb. capacity. We also use ALK-FP (PPG brand) premium paint and primer. These coatings are rust resistant and are of the highest quality in the industry.
To ensure exceptional standards of quality, our shelters have passed the rigorous testing standards required by the FEMA 320/361 guidelines for tornado safe rooms and shelters.
Tests conducted at The National Wind Institute, located at Texas Tech University, provided the results necessary to certify that our shelters exceeded the required FEMA 320/361 criteria.
Utilizing pneumatic machinery to simulate wind speeds of over 250 mph, various wind-borne debris are launched at the units to gather valuable testing data to determine the durability of our shelters.
Units pass the prescribed testing as long as debris doesn't penetrate the body of the unit, or dent the unit beyond 3 inches. Our shelters exceeded the test specifications.
